Deep 'Ole' Approaches: Severe Weather Predicted for Franconia

Meteorological forecasts indicate thunderstorms and heavy rainfall are expected in the region.
On May 27, 2025, the German Weather Service (DWD) has issued warnings for severe weather conditions in the Franconia region as deep 'Ole' advances from the northwest.

Thunderstorms are expected to make their presence known as early as the morning and into the early afternoon hours.

Winds may reach speeds of 50 to 70 km/h (Force 7 to 8), accompanied by small hail and heavy rainfall, potentially accumulating up to 20 liters per square meter.

By midday, the risk of thunderstorms will significantly increase in central and eastern Bavaria.

The DWD has indicated that more intense weather developments may occur, particularly in western regions, advancing towards Franconia by evening.

The city of Nuremberg, where maximum temperatures are forecasted to reach 17 degrees Celsius, is expected to face considerable weather hazards.

Potential storm gusts of up to 55 km/h and intense rainfall of up to 25 liters per square meter are being anticipated.

By the first half of the night leading into Thursday, the thunderstorms are expected to shift southeast towards Bavaria and the Alpine region, subsiding thereafter.

Following Wednesday's tumultuous weather, forecasts predict a variable weather pattern in Nuremberg for Thursday, with daytime highs around 18 degrees Celsius and scattered showers likely.

On Friday, a notable temperature increase is expected, with highs possibly reaching 25 degrees Celsius, offering more pleasant and predominantly dry conditions.

As the weekend approaches, Nuremberg is projected to experience summer-like weather with Saturday temperatures around 28 degrees Celsius and Sunday peaking at approximately 27 degrees Celsius, under ample sunshine.

Nighttime lows will also be milder, ranging between 13 to 16 degrees Celsius.

However, rain risks, including the potential for thunderstorms, are anticipated to return on Sunday, correlating with the onset of a new week that is expected to begin with temperatures around 23 degrees Celsius and occasional showers.
