The German Foreign Office advises against travel to Israel and neighboring regions due to escalating conflict.
The German Foreign Office has advised against travel to the Middle East, specifically issuing a travel warning for all of Israel in light of escalating conflicts in the region.
The advisory comes as a response to recent violence that has affected not only Israel but also neighboring areas crucial for tourism, including Dubai and several Gulf states.
In its updated travel advisories, the Foreign Office has modified travel guidance for the United Arab Emirates, which includes the prominent tourist destination of Dubai, as well as Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Qatar, Kuwait, Oman, and Jordan.
The travel warnings for Palestinian territories and Iran have been in effect for some time, while partial warnings apply to Lebanon and Iraq.
German nationals are urged to leave Iran due to the deteriorating situation.
During a visit to the Middle East, German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul highlighted the need for vigilance, stating, "We continue to monitor the situation closely.
I urge all German citizens to adhere closely to our travel warnings given the tense circumstances in the region." Minister Wadephul himself adjusted his travel plans due to the ongoing violence in Israel.
The revised travel advisory for Israel indicates a heightened risk of further attacks, including drone strikes and rocket fire.
The security situation has been described as "extremely tense," prompting Israel to declare a state of emergency nationwide.
Citizens are advised to remain indoors and close to protective structures.
The travel guidelines previously warned of the potential for significant escalation in violence in the area.
Travel warnings are officially issued for countries where there is a credible risk to personal safety.
Currently, 18 countries are under such warnings, including Ukraine,
Afghanistan, and Libya.
Other nations, like Russia and Egypt, have partial travel warnings in place.
These advisories can facilitate the cancellation of flights for travelers but do not constitute outright travel bans.
In light of the ongoing situation, the German Foreign Office's crisis response center is operating continuously to monitor developments.
A spokesperson encouraged all German citizens to heed local authorities' advice, pay attention to travel and security guidelines, register on the crisis prevention list, and keep their information updated.
This registration process ensures that the Foreign Office can reach individuals directly in case of emergencies.
The German embassy in Tel Aviv was closed on the Friday due to the security situation but remains accessible via phone and email.
Embassy staff are in contact with registered German nationals in the area to provide information on evacuation options.
An estimated several thousand Germans are currently in Israel.
