Volkswagen Unveils Affordable Electric Car Concept: ID. Every 1

Volkswagen Unveils Affordable Electric Car Concept: ID. Every 1

The ID. Every 1 aims to address concerns over high electric vehicle prices, set to debut by 2027.
Volkswagen has introduced its concept for the ID. Every 1, an affordable electric vehicle aimed at addressing the growing criticisms regarding high electric car prices.

Priced at approximately €20,000, this model is designed to expand Volkswagen's electric lineup, targeting the budget-conscious consumer segment.

The announcement was made during a presentation in Düsseldorf, where Volkswagen highlighted the ID. Every 1 as a significant step forward in making electric mobility more accessible.

However, despite the introduction of this concept, the vehicle is not expected to enter the market until 2027.

The move to launch the ID. Every 1 comes as many auto manufacturers have shifted their focus towards more expensive models, particularly during the pandemic, leading to a notable absence of affordable compact cars such as the Volkswagen Up, discontinued in 2023. Currently, the Volkswagen Polo serves as the manufacturer’s smallest vehicle, with plans for a battery-electric variant, the ID.2all, set to debut next year at a projected cost of around €25,000.

In competition, Renault has introduced the electric R5, starting at just below €25,000, while Hyundai’s entry-level Inster is priced under €24,000.

Additionally, two models produced in China, the Leapmotor T03 and Dacia Spring, are available for under €20,000, further intensifying the competitive landscape for affordable electric vehicles.

The launch of the ID. Every 1 coincides with the European Union's stricter CO₂ emission targets for car manufacturers, which has prompted a re-evaluation of product offerings in the electric vehicle market.

Volkswagen had previously announced plans for a budget-friendly electric compact car known as the ID. Life, which was introduction scheduled for 2025. However, design changes led to the project being shelved, ultimately evolving into the ID.2 all.

The design of the ID. Every 1 draws inspiration from the older Up model, opting for a more conservative aesthetic compared to the 2021 ID. Life concept, which featured a markedly futuristic appearance.

Volkswagen's chief designer, Andreas Mindt, aims to create vehicles that are not only accessible but visually appealing and representative of the brand’s identity.

Technically, the ID. Every 1 is set to offer a minimum range of 250 kilometers and a top speed of 130 kilometers per hour.

Measuring 20 centimeters longer than the former Up, its new electric powertrain design also foresees a more spacious interior, enhancing the practicality of the small city car, pending its market launch in 2027.
