Hundreds gather to protest Russian policies amid significant anniversaries in the context of the Ukraine conflict.
On March 1, 2025, hundreds of individuals gathered in downtown Berlin to demonstrate against the policies of Russian President Vladimir Putin.
The rally was organized by Julia Navalnaya, the widow of Russian dissident
Alexei Navalny, alongside opposition politicians Ilya Yashin and Vladimir Kara-Murza.
The participants, including numerous Russian opposition figures in exile, began their march at Potsdamer Platz.
They proceeded along the Unter den Linden boulevard, ultimately reaching the Russian Embassy, with Navalnaya leading the procession.
The final gathering took place at Pariser Platz.
Demonstrators held up placards declaring their opposition to the war in Ukraine and denouncing Putin as a dictator.
Some carried European flags, while others displayed images of political prisoners and
Alexei Navalny himself.
A notable banner featured a Russian flag with the inscription "Russia for Peace and Freedom."
Following a meeting between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and former U.S. President
Donald Trump, several placards conveyed additional political messages, such as "Stop Putin, Stop Trump" and "Don't Betray Ukraine."
Organizers from Team Navalny Germany estimated that approximately 3,500 individuals participated in the demonstration.
However, initial police estimates reported around 800 participants at the start of the march and approximately 500 at the conclusion of the event.
The demonstration remained peaceful, with no incidents reported.
The organizers highlighted significant anniversaries during the rally, including the first anniversary of
Alexei Navalny's death, the tenth anniversary of opposition leader Boris Nemtsov's assassination, and the third anniversary of Russia's invasion of Ukraine.
They stated, "This is why we are taking to the streets — against murders, against Putin, against the war, for peace, for freedom, for the right to live without fear."
