Eurowings Flight Encounters Emergency Landing in Paderborn

Passengers report terrifying moments during hard landing of Airbus A320 from Mallorca.
An Airbus A320-214 operated by Eurowings faced a harrowing incident during its landing approach at Paderborn Airport after arriving from Mallorca.

The jet reportedly experienced a hard landing, with its tail striking the runway, prompting alarm among passengers aboard.

Prior to the incident, passengers had noticed turbulence during descent.

One passenger, Christian Schatka, recounted lighthearted remarks made among travelers as they anticipated a bumpy landing.

However, the situation escalated when the aircraft made contact with the ground, leading to what witnesses described as a significant jolt.

The pilot, responding to an unexpected gust of wind, initiated a go-around maneuver after the initial touchdown.

According to reports, the aircraft was seen executing loops in the air as it circled back to reapproach the runway approximately 20 minutes later, with the international flight tracking platform Flightradar24 providing visual data of the aircraft’s flight path.

During this critical period, some passengers expressed distress due to the lack of communication from the cockpit.

Elisabeth Wurms, another passenger, indicated that there was no announcement for about ten minutes, resulting in a tense atmosphere within the cabin.

This period of silence contributed to the anxiety experienced by those on board, with reports of considerable fear among passengers.

Upon successfully landing on the second attempt, emergency services, including firefighters and medical teams, were present on standby at the airport.

While the aircraft landed safely, passengers reported physical discomfort following the rough landing, with complaints of shoulder and back pain attributed to the incident.

Damage to luggage in the cargo hold was also noted, underscoring the severity of the impact.

The airline has not released a statement regarding the incident as of yet.
