German Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution Classifies AfD as Secured Right-Wing Extremist

Extensive report highlights concerning findings about the Alternative for Germany party by the domestic intelligence agency.
The Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution (BfV) has released a comprehensive report classifying the Alternative for Germany (AfD) as a secured right-wing extremist party.

The report, spanning over a thousand pages, details troubling evidence concerning 353 AfD members, from local level officials to the party leadership, including Alice Weidel and Tino Chrupalla.

The BfV's analysis indicates that the AfD undermines the constitutionally guaranteed human dignity, primarily through its racist and xenophobic ideologies.

According to the report, the agency deems the AfD's concept of an 'ethnically-based national identity' incompatible with Article 1 of the German Constitution.

The agency outlines a persistent campaign of hostility against migrants, refugees, and Muslims orchestrated by party officials.

The AfD is portrayed as depicting migrants as a 'threatening collective,' attributing 'increased propensity for violence' to entire groups based solely on their origin.

The report encompasses around 400 pages of derogatory, nationalistic, racist, anti-minority, and anti-Muslim statements made by AfD officials.

Specific examples cited in the document include comments from Hans-Christoph Berndt, a local AfD politician who asserted that there are only '20, 30, 40 million Germans left in the country,' excluding individuals with migration backgrounds from this count.

Additionally, former party board member Stephan Protschka expressed on Twitter in December 2018, 'If a #dog joins a #wolfpack, does it become a #wolf or remain a dog?

#Passbonus.'

The BfV's assessment suggests that no moderation is foreseeable within the party.

The agency also expresses a 'strong suspicion' that the AfD is acting against the principles of democracy.

In its findings, it notes that party representatives consistently defame members of other political parties, labeling them as a 'community of political gangsters' or 'traitors to the people.'

These findings are expected to intensify discussions regarding future actions against the AfD.

In response to the classification, the AfD has announced plans to file a lawsuit against the assessment issued by the BfV. The party has faced setbacks in previous legal challenges against its classification as a suspected extremist entity, losing in two previous court instances.
