Recent comments from Ahmad Mansour, a psychologist and Islamic expert, alongside CDU politician Philipp Amthor, have brought attention to the alarming trends in violent crime statistics as released by law enforcement agencies.

Germany witnessed an increase in violent crime by 1.5% last year, with over 217,000 instances recorded, marking the highest level since 2007. Among these incidents, the number of suspects identified as non-German nationals rose significantly by 7.5%, contrasting with a 0.7% increase among German suspects.

Amthor expressed concerns regarding the escalating violence and the implications of unmanaged immigration, stating that a policy revision is necessary.

He emphasized the need for the state to adopt a firmer stance against offenders residing in Germany, particularly those who are undocumented or engaged in criminal activities.

Mansour's remarks highlighted the importance of acknowledging cultural factors in crime rates, particularly in relation to recently arrived immigrants who may come from patriarchal societies.

He asserted that while integration is achievable for a substantial number of individuals, overwhelming numbers could hinder effective integration, compromising support systems.

In the context of current discussions, the wearing of Palestinian scarves (Pali-Tücher) in the Bundestag has also ignited criticism.

This debate intensified following an incident where a left-wing parliament member, Cansin Köktürk, donned such a scarf, arguing it was a sign of solidarity with Palestinians.

However, both Mansour and Amthor have labeled the garment a politically charged symbol that has increasingly been associated with anti-Israel sentiment since the escalation of violence in October 2023 involving Hamas and Israel.

Mansour and Amthor both advocate for the prohibition of contentious political symbols from the parliamentary setting, arguing for respect toward the legislative environment.

Amthor characterized the recent display of the Palestinian scarf as a deliberate provocation and praised the Bundestag President, Julia Klöckner, for her stance against political expressions in parliament, reaffirming the intent for the Bundestag to be a venue for serious discourse rather than theatrical displays.
