The recent uptick in attacks on Sumy follows developments in the neighboring Kursk region, where Ukrainian forces have reportedly made advances, prompting retaliatory actions from Russian military units.

In response to escalating conflict, the village head of Gluschkovo, situated approximately seven kilometers from the Ukrainian border, has mandated an evacuation of residents due to deteriorating security conditions.

This directive was communicated via social media on the evening of May 5, 2025. Previous evacuations had also been enacted in two border towns, Bilopilja and Woroschba, as Ukrainian military operations intensified.

Ukrainian partisans, operating under the banner of the Crimean Tatar group 'Atesh,' have claimed responsibility for a sabotage operation targeting a power substation in the Russian city of Saratov, located nearly 1,100 kilometers from Ukraine’s capital, Kyiv.

According to a statement from 'Atesh,' the act disrupted electricity supply to a nearby refinery and a mobilization center, with local reports corroborating an explosion and subsequent power outage in parts of the city.

Earlier, on May 5, Russian officials had reported a drone attack attributed to Ukrainian forces in the Kursk region, claiming damage to a substation in the city of Rylsk.

The attack allegedly resulted in injuries to two teenagers and disrupted the electrical supply to the area.
